The laboratory Quality policy statement

Mengo Hospital laboratory is a medical laboratory that provides diagnostic, advisory and interpretative services in the disciplines of Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology, Clinical-chemistry, Histopathology, and Phlebotomy. We are committed to providing quality laboratory services that are timely, reliable, accurate and cost effective that meet the needs of our users. This is achieved by adhering to good clinical laboratory practices and conduct of testing using standard methods and equipment that are validated and verified to ensure that they are fit for use. It is the laboratory management’s commitment to hire qualified and competent laboratory staff that perform their work while following standard operating procedures.

The laboratory aims to attain international accreditation to ISO 15189:2012 a standard for medical laboratories requirements for quality and competence. The laboratory has established a quality management system that complies with the requirements of ISO 15189; 2012, national/international regulations and implements activities that ensure continual improvement of the quality of the laboratory services through management reviews, risk assessment, performing corrective and preventive actions and using this policy as a framework for establishing and reviewing quality objectives. This policy is communicated and understood within the organization through meetings, emails, and other communication channels. This policy and objectives are reviewed annually for continuing suitability.

  • Day to day running (processes) of the department.

The laboratory services department is constituted by the main laboratory, the general outpatients’ lab, the Private outpatients’ lab, the antenatal clinic lab and the paediatric outpatient’s lab at Nassolo.

Patients samples are collected from reception areas at the different outpatients’ sections and the inpatient samples collected the wards. Samples are processed, tested and results given to clients with the agreed TAT.

The laboratory is headed by the laboratory manager who oversees the day to day operations of the department. Each section in the department is headed by a section supervisor for optimal running of each section i.e. GOPD, POPD, Antenatal, Nassolo children’s clinic, Hematology, Clinical chemistry, and Microbiology.
