The Blood bank is to cost about US Dollars 600,000, will be centrally air conditioned state – of – the art facility, and set up on 800sq meters at Mengo Hospital. The Blood Bank is a donation from the Rotary Club District 9211. Fundraising was held for the purpose, and renowned international Musician Kofi Olomide performed a concert in Kampala alongside other local singers to raise the needed funds. Several Mengo staff bought tickets and participated in the noble cause.
The programme is headed by former District Governor, Emmanuel Katongole, proprietor of Quality Chemicals. The Blood bank will initially be managed by Rotary club District 9211, for the first five years, after which it will be handed over to Mengo Hospital.
