Christian Blind Mission (CBM)
Christian Blind Mission is an international Christian development organization committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in low and middle-income countries. For over two decades, CBM has supported Mengo Hospital’s Eye Department, helping it grow into a regional leader in diagnosis, surgical care, and rehabilitation.
Through a multi-year institutional partnership with Mengo Hospital and Saarland University (Germany), CBM is advancing ophthalmology services in Uganda. This collaboration has enabled infrastructure upgrades, the establishment of a cornea transplant initiative, and specialized training for Ugandan ophthalmologists in advanced surgical techniques, eye bank management, and clinical research.
Together, CBM and Mengo Hospital are working toward launching Uganda’s first local eye bank and scaling sustainable corneal transplant services, ushering in a new era of inclusive eye care across East and Southern Africa.
