The Department of Internal Medicine is one of Mengo Hospital’s most established and respected units, known for its consistent delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. The department provides expert diagnosis and treatment for adult medical conditions, ranging from infectious diseases to chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, and heart conditions.

With a demonstrated record of clinical excellence, the department serves as a referral center and a hub for specialist consultations, inpatient care, and outpatient follow-up. It is supported by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals who ensure holistic and patient-centered care.

The department also plays a key academic role, hosting medical students, interns, and postgraduate trainees. Mengo Hospital is Uganda’s first accredited training site for the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP) and has successfully graduated Fellows since joining the program.
