This department is made up of a core team responsible for nursing care at Mengo Hospital.

Superintendent of Nursing: The head of the Nursing Division and a member of the Hospital Management Team. She wears a white uniform with a head cap and a black belt, along with a Mengo Hospital badge indicating double registration as a nurse (URN/URM).

Deputy Superintendent of Nursing: Acts as deputy to the Superintendent of Nursing and wears the same uniform.

Ward Managers: These oversee the various units within the hospital such as maternity, general wards, theatres, and the Eye Department. They wear a white uniform and head cap with a forest green belt. If double registered, they wear a Mengo Hospital badge similar to that of the Principal Nursing Officer or a diploma nurse/midwife.

Double Registered Nurses: Senior nursing officers trained in both Nursing and Midwifery. Tradition requires them to wear a sky-blue or red belt along with a white uniform and head cap. They also wear a Mengo Hospital badge indicating their double registration.

Diploma Nurses/Midwives: Nursing officers trained in either Nursing or Midwifery. They wear a white uniform and head cap with a red belt if they have five or more years of service, and a yellow belt if below five years. This belt color denotes seniority. They also wear a Mengo Hospital badge indicating their diploma status, traditionally branded as Uganda Registered Nurse or Midwife (URN or URM).

• All of the above cadres are entitled to the title Nursing Sister (Sr).
• Ward in-charges, who may be double or single registered nurses/midwives, oversee day-to-day operations in conjunction with ward managers.
